Advaita / Antithesis to Corewave

TITLE: Advaita / Antithesis to Corewave

DEFINITION: Philosophical/ Religious belief in the Non-dual nature of reality. Advaita means literally "not two", which is quite different from implying that all is One!

CREATOR: Humanity? God? Nature?

MAIN CATEGORY: Belief

ALTERNATIVE CATEGORIES: Science, myth

RELATIONSHIP TO THE CORE WAVE: Antithesis, or at least chalenge to the corewaves universal acceptance.

MAIN QUOTE: "Realise that you are that which is everwhere, and you realise that any boundary that appears to separate you from anything is illusory. A feeling or a thought of separtaion is illusion. As illusion, thoughts and feelings arise and disappear. You are that which does not arise and does not disappear. You are present regardless of thoughts and feelings." Gangaji, in 'You are That'

HIGHLIGHT QUOTES: "If you just want a nice spiritual high sometimes, you are welcome to it of course. That is somewhat like putting your toe into the ocean. It feels very good, and the ocean doesn't mind if you just put your toe in. Yet, there is the possibility of diving into the ocean of Truth totally with no hope of re-emerging. Dive in and see." Gangaji 'You are That'

"The supreme cause has to be beyond number, otherwise Number would be First Cause. But the number one, although it has peculiar properties, is a number like two, or three, or ten, or a million. If "God" is one, he is not beyond number… But although a million is not any nearer to infinity than one or two or ten, it seems to be so from the limited point of view of our perceptions. And we may be neareer to a mental representaion of divinity when we consider an immense number of different gods than when we try to stress their unity; for the number one is in a way the farthest removed from infinity." 'The Gods of India' by Alain Danielou

"Space within a pitcher is not really separated from the space outside. It was not distinct before the pitcher was made; it will not be distinct once the pitcher is broken and is not therefore really distinctwhile the pitcher exists" Indian text quoted in 'The Gods of India' by Alain Danielou

"Projection makes perception. The world you see is what you gace it, nothing more than that. But though it is no more than that, it is not less. Therefore, to you it is important. It is the witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition. As a man thinketh, so does he perceive. Therefore, seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world. Perception is a result and not a cause." A Course in Miracles

"It is because the thoughts you think you think appear as images that you do not recognise them, and so you think you see them. This is how your "seeing" was made. This is the function you have given your body's eyes. It is not seeing it is image-making. It takes the place of seeing, replacing vision with illusions." A Course in Miracles

"when the truth of symultaneous oneness and difference is understood, the imperfect concepts of monism and dualism cease to satisfy." 'The Teachings of Lord Chaitanya

"You are simultaneously one with and different from Krsna. Because you are spirit, you are not different from Krsna, and because you are only a minute particle of Krsna, you are different from him" ." 'The Teachings of Lord Chaitanya

HIGHLIGHT: As a spiritual seeker I have investigated the beliefs of many philosophies and religious systems. Slowly I have discovered that the ones which have given me most inspiration have in common a thread that I have here called 'Advaita', ( a Sanskrit term meaning Non-Dual). I have tried here to give an overview of the ways in which the distinction between inside and outside is questioned in these systems.

Is the Corewave, "there exists a primary distinction between inside and outside", universally true, or only true within certain planes of reality? Is there ultimately a distinction between 'inside and outside', and if so, should it be called 'primary'. What of the mystics of so many diverse cultures who have said in one way or another that all dualities are ultimately unreal, (or something like that)? What of the insights of quantum mechanics into the fundamental participation of the observer with the observed?
What proof do we have that our thoughts and our bodies are truly 'ours'? What if this persistant impression of an 'I' that claims them as its own, is not truly 'real'.

DEEPER:The corewave distinction does not appear to be something that we are born with. To some extent it is conditioned, a way of looking at the world particularly encouraged by the patriarchal Judeo-Christian culture. Many other societies, especially those more in tune with nature, seem to see existance more as a continuum that joins the inide and outside of all things.

In 3 dimensional space, all of a 2 dimensional plane is 'surface', no matter what appears to be inside or outside of figures made of lines. Likewise, from a 4th dimensional perspective all 3 dimensions would be exposed and even the innermost cells of our hearts and brains could be touched as though they were no more 'inside' than any others.

A friend of mine points out that there is a mathematical entity called a Klien Bottle (the 4 dimensional eqivalent of a mobius strip) that has no inside and outside!

All this is not to argue that the corewave is certifiably false, but only to demonstrate that it is highly quesionable that it is universally true. Perhaps this is true for any conceptual generallisations about reality that are bound by the limitations of human landguages and minds?!

CONNECTION TUNNELS: Synchronicity-If there is no distinction between inside and outside then there is no mystery as to the mechanism of meaningful relationships between what may still seem to be separate things
Within and Without- contains many similar statements about the divine unreality of inside and out.
Glass Bead Game- the purpose of the ultimate game is to understand the nature of existance and how to best participate in its play.
