Why, do you suppose, is there such a concerted effort to make the leap into space? Already, our planet is faced with serious global threats, including overpopulation, urbanization, and global warming. Although scientists and treehuggers are trying to slow the process of global warming by encouraging the world to use less damaging products for day to day activities, reports have predicted that the world will run out of fossil fuels within the next twenty years. It seems like quite a long time away, but in reality, twenty years goes by relatively fast.

Space not only represents a frontier for the humankind to exploit, but also a possible safety net should a natural disaster occur. Tribes, cultures, civilizations...they all move west only when it is necessary for survival. I think the expanse into space is an indication of greater predicaments to come.

Just a thought...
