sub text in literature
Posted by Mike Paine on December 17, 1998 at 04:24:32:

The role of the sub-text. 'Theatre cannot take place without an audience.' If the audience
is not there, what is happening? That's clear with theatre, but what about the reader of a short
story. The subtext remains personal. Or nil. Should the writer help with footnotes, guiding
him/her on to the next step in 'the game'? My move is therefore, whatis the real place of
the subtext in literature and how can we identify it - or guied it?
